In Princeton, SparkTroops understands that many children with developmental disabilities quietly long for the kind of social connection and everyday belonging that others may take for granted. The nonprofit brings together high school volunteers and kids in small troops—consistent groups that meet regularly, play together, learn, and grow as true equals. These aren't programs with hierarchies or one-time encounters. They're communities built on trust, where the same faces show up every session, and friendships have room to deepen.

Each troop is carefully designed around what makes sense for every child. Activities are sensory-aware and structured, with trained volunteers offering one-to-one support tailored to each child's comfort and needs. A high school volunteer doesn't become a helper or supervisor—they become a meaningful, confident source of friendship and support, someone who shows up and shares a laugh and makes inclusion feel natural.

What sets SparkTroops apart is its commitment to genuine equality. Everyone in the troop earns the same recognition through an equal reward system that celebrates showing up and participating, side by side. High school volunteers break down their own assumptions about disability while building real skills and lasting friendships. Families find a welcoming routine and adults who show up for their child. And children discover that they belong in a community where they are valued, seen, and celebrated simply for being themselves.
