In Laramie, when August arrives and the mountain air grows crisp, a group of young athletes gathers at local fields and practice sites, ready to lace up their cleats and step onto the gridiron. For many of these fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, it's their first time experiencing the sport—learning not just how to throw and catch, but how to be part of something bigger than themselves. Laramie Youth Football opens its doors each season to children throughout the community, providing equipment, coaching, and the structure they need to grow as players and as people.

The program understands that access matters. Recognizing that cost can be a barrier, the George Archuleta Memorial Scholarship Fund helps families facing financial need, ensuring that every child in Laramie who wants to play has the opportunity to do so. From equipment checkout in late summer through the season that stretches into October, the organization handles the logistics—providing helmets, shoulder pads, and jerseys—so families can focus on watching their young athletes discover what they're capable of.

But football is never really just about football. Through practices and games played across Laramie's fields, young players learn sportsmanship, teamwork, and the fundamentals that extend far beyond the field. Coaches work patiently with athletes as they progress through skills assessments, team selection, and regular season play. In that process, something shifts—kids discover resilience, build confidence, and forge bonds with teammates that turn a season into a memory.

Every fall, Laramie Youth Football opens registration, and the community responds. Parents see their children find joy in the game, build friendships, and learn lessons about showing up, working hard, and supporting one another. That's the heartbeat of youth football in Laramie—a safe space where young athletes belong, grow, and begin to understand what teamwork truly means.
