A welcoming community rooted in faith and service
Trinity Lower East Side Lutheran Parish has been a vibrant spiritual home on Manhattan's Lower East Side since 1843, grounded in Jesus's teaching and committed to serving the poor, hungry, and all who seek belonging.

On the corner of Avenue B and 9th Street, Trinity's doors have opened to neighbors for nearly two centuries. What began in 1843 has grown into a parish that understands faith not as a set of walls, but as an invitation—one extended genuinely, without hesitation, to anyone who walks through. Whether someone arrives seeking spiritual nourishment, community, or simply a place where they belong, Trinity embodies a clear conviction: when they say all are welcome, they mean it.
In a neighborhood shaped by change, Trinity remains anchored in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and the rich traditions of Lutheran worship. Yet that liturgical foundation does not isolate the parish from the world around it. Instead, it propels Trinity outward—toward the hungry, the marginalized, and those whom society often overlooks. The parish recognizes that serving the poor and caring for those in need flows directly from the gospel they proclaim each Sunday.
What makes Trinity distinctive is its refusal of selective welcome. The parish is proudly ecumenical and explicitly affirms LGBTQIA+ peoples, rooted in the conviction that God's love extends to all. This openness is not performative; it shapes how the community gathers, worships, and serves. Every person who comes through the door—whether for a Sunday service at 11 a.m., a meal, or simply shelter from the street—encounters a congregation determined to embody the radical inclusion Jesus taught.
For nearly 180 years, Trinity has remained a living witness on the Lower East Side: that church can be a place of genuine refuge, deep spiritual life, and active concern for the vulnerable. In a city of millions, it stands as a reminder that faith takes root not in isolation, but in relationship—with God, with each other, and with the neighborhood they call home.
