Safe shelter, stable homes, renewed hope
Genesis Garden provides emergency shelter and pursues permanent housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness across western Illinois, believing everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

In western Illinois, homelessness looks different from neighborhood to neighborhood. For some, it means sleeping in a car. For others, it's a night on the street or in an abandoned building. Genesis Garden sees each person's situation clearly—not with judgment, but with a commitment to understanding what led them there and what it will take to get them home again.
When someone reaches out to Genesis Garden, the conversation starts with a question: What would it take for you to stay safely housed? Maybe it's help with eviction prevention. Maybe it's a temporary place to stay with family while longer-term solutions come together. Maybe it's emergency shelter itself, paired with support to address the real barriers—income, employment, childcare, health, or past trauma—that stand between a person and stability.
Genesis Garden knows that emergency shelter is a bridge, not a destination. While opening new shelter units across McDonough County, the organization keeps its eyes fixed on the real goal: safe, permanent, stable housing. During a person's time in shelter, the work becomes intentional—identifying strengths, connecting to resources, and building a path toward a home of their own.
Serving McDonough, Hancock, Henderson, and Warren Counties, Genesis Garden operates from a simple belief: everyone should have a safe place to live. It takes honest conversation, real support, and access to the resources that matter. For anyone facing housing instability in western Illinois, the first step is a phone call to Genesis Garden—a place that listens, understands, and helps people find their way home.
