Sawyer & Crew Authorization Matrix

A certification tracker answers “is Dave current?”, which is the easy question and rarely the one that goes wrong. What goes wrong is the composition of a crew on a particular Saturday: an apprentice cutting with nobody more qualified on site, or somebody sawing alone because the second person left early. Two rules recur across land-managing agencies and this workbook applies whichever versions you enter — an apprentice works under supervision, and nobody saws alone. The Work Days tab tests both against the people you actually assigned and reports NOT AUTHORISED for the day.

  • Crew composition tested per work day, not per person
  • Apprentice-with-no-supervisor and working-alone flagged separately
  • Certification, first aid and CPR currency in one status

Leave blank and the workbook stops testing evaluation age.

Saw work is dangerous and this workbook makes nobody safe. It certifies, evaluates and authorises no one — an authorised status means only that the values you typed satisfy the rules you typed. Certification levels, evaluation intervals and supervision rules come from the agency or landowner whose ground you are on.
