Community Science Observation Log
Most of what a community science log records is harmless and the more of it that is shared the better. A precise location for a sensitive species is the large exception: published coordinates for rare plants, reptiles, raptor nests and cave fauna have led to collection, disturbance and deliberate persecution, which is why the major biodiversity platforms obscure them. A volunteer spreadsheet has no such protection and is the easiest thing in the world to forward. This log flags sensitive records, keeps a coarsened location beside the precise one, and treats releasing precision as a decision with a name and a date against it.
- Sensitive records matched against your own list
- A shareable coarsened location computed beside the precise one
- Precise releases with nobody recorded as authorising them
Roughly a kilometre at 2 places, ten at 1. Leave blank to withhold the location entirely.
