Artist Consignment & Payout Tracker

Most US states have an artist-consignment statute treating consigned work — and the artist’s share of the proceeds once it sells — as property held in trust for that artist, generally beyond the reach of the gallery’s own creditors, and many expect a written agreement. That changes what a tracker is for: an unpaid artist is not a bill that can wait for a better month. So the status ladder puts a missing written agreement above everything, then money held past your own payout terms, then work held past its term — and the summary leads with the total you are holding rather than with sales.

  • Artist funds held in trust, totalled first
  • NO WRITTEN AGREEMENT ranked above every other status
  • Sold-and-unpaid amber even before it is late

In most US states, consigned work and the artist’s share of the proceeds are held in trust for the artist and are generally beyond the reach of the gallery’s creditors — and many statutes expect a written agreement. This is not legal advice; confirm what applies to you and put the terms in writing either way.
