Theater that brings everyone's story to the stage
Hands In! creates inclusive theatrical productions where deaf and hearing performers collaborate to tell stories that celebrate community, connection, and shared humanity.

Walking into a Hands In! production is stepping into a world where every voice—spoken and signed—matters equally. The theater company brings together deaf and hearing artists to craft performances that wouldn't exist any other way. When a classic story like A Christmas Carol takes the stage as "Scrooge's Pawn," it becomes something entirely new: a reimagined tale where American Sign Language flows alongside spoken dialogue, where the richness of both languages creates a fuller picture of the human experience.
These productions explore what it means to belong. A story about a pawn shop owner confronting loneliness, loss, and the possibility of transformation speaks to anyone who has ever wondered if they matter to their community. By casting both deaf and hearing performers, Hands In! doesn't just tell these stories—it proves them. The stage becomes a place where different ways of communicating create beauty together, where audience members see themselves reflected in unexpected ways.
For the performers themselves, Hands In! opens doors. Artists audition and take their place in the cast and crew alongside peers from different backgrounds. They rehearse together, support each other through the creative process, and ultimately stand together under the lights. Every production is a conversation: between characters, between languages, between the stage and the audience. The message is clear and powerful: art belongs to everyone, and community happens when we make space for all of us to participate.
