A Week Under the Florida Sky at Babcock Camp
In Punta Gorda, Babcock Camp gives young people a place to explore nature, build friendships, and discover what they are capable of. This example story shows how a single camp week can change a child's outlook.

Imagine a child arriving at Babcock Camp on a warm Florida morning, backpack in hand and a little nervous about meeting new faces. By the end of the first afternoon, that same child is wading along a shoreline, pointing out birds and laughing with new friends. This is the quiet magic of camp: a space where curiosity is welcome and every young person is encouraged to try something new.
Throughout the week, campers settle into a rhythm of outdoor games, hands-on activities, and time spent under open skies. Some learn to paddle for the first time. Others discover a love for the stars on a clear evening, or find that working together on a team challenge is more rewarding than they expected. Counselors guide each day with patience and care, helping campers take small steps that add up to real confidence.
When the final campfire circle comes around, the goodbyes are often bittersweet. Families notice their kids telling stories about the lake, the trails, and the friends they made. Those memories tend to last well beyond summer, giving young people a sense of belonging and a reason to return next year.
