Frequently asked questions

Whose insurance covers a volunteer using their own car?+

The driver’s personal auto insurance is primary for their own vehicle, so the policy requires every driver to carry and prove valid coverage at the limits you set. Organizations often add non-owned and hired auto coverage on top, but that does not replace the driver’s obligation.

What is an MVR check and why require it?+

A motor-vehicle record (MVR) check shows a driver’s license status and driving history. Reviewing it before approving a driver — and re-checking periodically — helps screen out high-risk drivers and demonstrates due care.

Does the two-adult rule apply to driving?+

Yes. When transporting minors or vulnerable adults, a driver should not be alone with a single passenger wherever possible; a second screened adult or additional passengers should be present, consistent with your child- and adult-protection policies.
