Frequently asked questions
Do people have to try informal resolution before filing a formal complaint?+
Informal resolution is encouraged because many concerns are resolved quickly through direct conversation, but it is not required — and it is not appropriate when the concern involves the very person someone would have to approach.
What concerns are handled outside this policy?+
Harassment and discrimination complaints are handled under the Anti-Harassment & Non-Discrimination Policy, and suspected wrongdoing may go through whistleblower procedures, though either can also be raised through the channels in this policy.
Is there a way to appeal a decision?+
Yes. Someone dissatisfied with the outcome can request an appeal, which is decided by a person or body at a higher level who was not involved in the original decision.
