Black women finding wholeness, power, and joy together

In Martinsville and across the South, countless Black women carry the weight of being seen as too much—too dark, too loud, too big, too demanding of care. They navigate spaces where their bodies are scrutinized but their wisdom is overlooked, where beauty standards erase them and medical providers dismiss their pain. The DESIRE+ Collective recognizes this painful reality and responds by creating something radical: spaces where Black women are not an afterthought, but the center.

Through intimate healing circles, embodiment workshops, and joyful movement classes, the organization invites women back into their bodies with gentleness and presence. A woman might find herself in a sacred circle, tending to grief with other Black women who truly understand her journey. She might stretch and breathe in a yoga class designed for every curve and capacity, where her body is honored—not judged. She might discover her voice in a leadership mentorship circle, surrounded by Black women who have walked similar paths and chosen themselves.

Beyond Beautiful, the Collective's signature summit, gathers women and girls to explore who they are beyond appearance—their identities, relationships, confidence, and power. Participants leave with a renewed sense of their own worth and connection to a community that reflects them back to themselves.

The work extends beyond wellness into advocacy and policy, challenging the systems that have harmed Black women's bodies and stories. Through research, education, and organized effort, the Collective works to shift not just individual hearts, but the institutions and narratives that diminish Black women's humanity.

In this way, the DESIRE+ Collective moves women from invisibility toward impact, from survival toward wholeness—affirming that every curve, every voice, and every truth is already enough.
