Leading the Way Academy @ Blue Ridge

Leading the Way Academy is a student-centered leadership and academic enrichment program designed to support elementary students through intentional academic support, leadership development, and mentorship. We create a structured and encouraging environment where students can build confidence, strengthen academic skills, develop positive relationships, and grow into capable, community-minded leaders. Through homework assistance, leadership programming, team-building, social-emotional development, and mentorship from college and community leaders, Leading the Way Academy works to ensure that students have the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. -- Leading the Way Academy volunteers serve as mentors, role models, and additional support for our students. Volunteers work alongside the Lead Teacher and program staff to help create a positive, safe, and engaging environment where students feel supported and encouraged to grow. Volunteer responsibilities may include: - Mentoring students by building positive, trusting relationships and encouraging their personal and academic growth. - Supporting the Lead Teacher during academic, leadership, and enrichment activities. - Assisting students with homework and class work when appropriate, without replacing the role of the Lead Teacher. - Encouraging positive behavior and leadership by modeling the values and five tenets of Leading the Way Academy. - Providing one-on-one or small-group support to students who may need additional encouragement or assistance. - Participating in activities and programming that promote teamwork, communication, confidence, and leadership. - Being a positive role model by demonstrating integrity, respect, accountability, and a commitment to serving others. - Building students up through encouragement, positive reinforcement, and consistent mentorship. Volunteers are not expected to be professional teachers. Their primary role is to show up, build relationships, support learning, and help students recognize their own potential. At Leading the Way Academy, we believe that sometimes the most meaningful thing a student needs is simply someone who believes in them, encourages them, and helps them see what they are capable of becoming.
