Companion for Senior Adults
As a Companion, you'll be matched one-on-one with an older adult living in a senior care community, such as assisted living or memory care, who could benefit from additional friendship and connection. Companions are matched with a senior of the same gender and, whenever possible, based on shared interests, personalities, and life experiences. We aim to match you with someone within approximately 10 miles of your location, unless you're comfortable traveling farther. You'll visit your senior friend for approximately 1–1½ hours each week for six months, generally on the same day and at the same time. This consistency gives you and your senior friend the opportunity to become comfortable with one another and, over time, develop a genuine friendship. Visits are simple and relational. You might spend your time talking over coffee, playing cards or a board game, taking a walk around the property, attending an on-site activity, sharing a meal, looking through photographs, celebrating a birthday or holiday, reading together, discussing faith, or praying together when appropriate. Companions provide friendship and a caring, consistent presence. They do not provide medical care, personal care, household assistance, financial assistance, or transportation. All visits take place on-site at the senior's residence. For more information and requirements, please visit: https://www.myfriendusa.org/volunteer
