Getting started

Ministry roles

Starter ministries for congregations, and how requirements combine when someone serves in more than one role.

Ministry roles are how a congregation says what each serving role requires. They appear only when Church tools are on.

Use the starter set

  1. Open Ministry roles under Manage.
  2. Choose Use starter ministries. That adds nursery, students, hospitality, care, trips, and the other common roles, each with a risk level and a default 24-month recheck.
  3. Rename a role, turn one off, or add your own.

Open Edit on a ministry to rename it, change its risk, or save its requirements. Cancel leaves the ministry as it was. Saving requirements can set how many months someone must wait, and can turn the check, references, interview, training, policy acknowledgment, two-adult rule, or driving-record flag on or off without changing the risk. A ministry you add starts as general. Changing its risk replaces the requirements with the defaults for that risk and clears a driving-record flag. It does not assign anyone.

Turning a ministry off ends current assignments and removes it from the assignment list. It does not delete the history, and it does not approve or decline anyone.

A person can hold more than one ministry. On the profile, those ministries are grouped by category, and a turned-off ministry is not listed. Saving asks you to confirm first. That save assigns a safe-ministry course when one is missing or due, and assigning a course emails the person. The stricter requirement wins: the shortest recheck and the highest reference count. A role that needs a driving record says so on the list. VolunteerBadge does not order that record.
