An application template is the set of questions a volunteer answers when they apply. New organizations start with a Youth & Children application set as the default — our most protective, vulnerable-population-ready form — plus a template for the sector you chose during signup. You can tailor either, add more from the Template Library, or build your own.
- In the left menu, open Applications to see your templates.
- Click “+ New Template” to start fresh, “Duplicate” to copy an existing one, or add a ready-made one from the Template Library (below).
- Click “Edit” (the pencil) to open the drag-and-drop builder.
- From the Field palette, drag a question type onto your form: Short Text, Long Text, Email, Phone, Date, Address, Address History, Dropdown, Checkboxes, Yes / No, File Upload, Section Header, or Divider.
- Click any field to rename it, mark it Required, or add options; drag the handle to reorder; use the copy or trash icons. A Section Header field also has a Subtext box — plain instructional text (e.g. “please read the policy below before answering”) that shows under the header without asking the applicant to fill anything in.
- Click “Live preview” to see what volunteers see, then “Save template.” (It also auto-saves every 30 seconds.)
The Template Library — every sector, one click
Scroll to the Template Library at the bottom of the Applications page for a ready-made, FCRA-compliant application for every kind of nonprofit work — Youth & Children, Mentoring, Elderly & Senior Care, Healthcare, Hospice, Disability & Special Needs, Mental Health, Food Bank, Homeless Shelter, Housing, Education, Literacy, Animal Welfare, Environment, Disaster Relief, Faith & Ministry, Arts & Culture, Sports & Recreation, Veterans, Immigrant & Refugee Services, Addiction & Recovery, Events & Fundraising, Community & Civic, and General. Each one's questions are tailored to that sector — a Sports & Recreation form asks about coaching and CPR; an Environment form asks about outdoor work and activities. Click “Use this template” and it's added to your list and opened in the builder to review.
Setting your default template
The default template is the one pre-selected when you send invites and the one your public application link uses. It shows a green Default tag. To change it, click “Set as default” (the star) next to any other template — it switches instantly, and the previous default becomes a regular template. Every organization always has exactly one default.
Renaming a template
The template's name is the title volunteers see at the top of the form. Rename it two ways: click the title itself in the builder (it becomes editable — press Enter to save), or use the Rename action next to any template on the Applications page. You can also just ask Victor: “rename my Elderly Care application to Senior Companion Application.”
